Guide · 6 steps

How to select.

Choosing the right transformer in six steps. If you'd rather we do the picking, call us with the load and the application and we'll quote.

  1. 01

    Find your category.

Start with the transformer family that matches the application — isolating, lighting, power, autotransformer, audio, inverter, or one of the custom-built classes.

  2. 02

    Determine the spec.

Note the load in VA or KVA, the line voltage, the output voltage on the load, and the number of phases (single or three).

  3. 03

    Pick the code.

In the catalogue tables under your chosen category, read across to the VA column — the transformer's reference code sits opposite the load you need.

  4. 04

    Choose a mounting style.

Each category lists supported finished styles at the top — D-bracket, L-angle, frames, covers, V-bracket, rail-mount, etc. Reference the style code (e.g. "03-0404"). See the mounting-styles page for visuals.

  5. 05

    Send the inquiry.

Quote the transformer code and the style code together. If you've drawn a custom requirement, send the drawing — we'll engineer to it.

  6. 06

    Outside the standard?

For unusual specs, look under "Styles view" and reference the style code under the relevant picture. We design and build to it.

Worked examples

What an inquiry looks like.

Example 1

You require: 100 VA control transformer, 1-phase, 220 V line, 24 V output

Transformer code
FT10940
Style code
03-0404

Example 2

You require: Single-phase autotransformer, 240/110 V, 1000 VA

Transformer code
FT17165
Style code
03-0404

Still not sure? Call us.

Tell us the load, the line voltage, and the application — we'll pick the right transformer in the call.
